Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu originally began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, and its first chapter was released on 2012-04-20. While the author originally posted chapters there normally, the series was adapted as a light novel. He later used the web novel as a draft for the upcoming novels that were to be released until each of them caught up to the other. As the web novel is a draft, every detail that is inconsistent with information from the light novel should be considered non-canon.

Story Arcs[]

Arc 1: The Tumultuous First Day[]

The Tumultuous First Day (怒涛の一日目, Dotō no Ichinichime) is the first arc of the web novel. It began on 2012-04-20, and it was finished on 2012-05-08. Arc 1 consists of a prologue, 22 chapters, and 1 interlude.

The first arc is about Natsuki Subaru's arrival in the new, mysterious world he has been summoned to. There, in the Kingdom of Lugunica, he decides to help a silver-haired, amethyst-eyed girl with recovering her stolen insignia. However, he ends up being murdered by someone, but somehow returns from his death. In order to save that girl from her predestined death, he decides to use this ability to help her.

Arc 2: The Turbulent Week[]

The Turbulent Week (激動の一週間, Gekidō no Isshūkan) is the second arc of the web novel. It began on 2012-05-09, and it was finished on 2012-07-08. Arc 2 consists of 49 chapters and 1 interlude.

The second arc is about Subaru's accommodation at Roswaal Manor, where he started working as a butler with Ram and Rem, but nevertheless, in his first days of working, he was mysteriously murdered. Willing to discover the killer, Subaru will do everything possible to gain the trust of everyone at the mansion and achieve the desired outcome; saving himself and everyone he cares about.

Addendum: One Day[]

One Day (わんでい, Wan Dei) is a two-chapter addendum in between Arc 2 and Arc 3. It is about Subaru's desire to have mayonnaise following the witchbeast incident.

Arc 3: Return to the Royal Capital[]

Return to the Royal Capital (再来の王都, Sairai no Ōto) is the third arc of the web novel. It began on 2012-07-16, and it was finished on 2013-04-19. Arc 3 consists of 84 chapters and 3 interludes.

The third arc is about Subaru, who after embarrassing Emilia at the Royal Selection Ceremony in the Royal Capital, is left to be treated by Ferris, the knight of Crusch Karsten. Soon after, Subaru and Rem return to the mansion, only to discover that everyone of the Emilia Camp was brutally murdered by the mysterious Witch Cult. While repeatedly returning to the past by his death, Subaru encounters new opponents and obstacles, finds clues, and discovers that in order to push through this seemingly unending nightmare, he'll have to ask for help.

Arc 4: The Everlasting Contract[]

The Everlasting Contract (永遠の契約, Eien no Keiyaku) is the fourth arc of the web novel. It began on 2013-04-20, and it was finished on 2014-08-03. Arc 4 consists of 135 chapters and 4 interludes.

The fourth arc is about Subaru and Emilia arriving at the Sanctuary, where they encounter Roswaal, Ram and the missing villagers of Arlam Village held hostage by a mysterious and aggressive boy. Roswaal instructs the two of them to carry out the Trials of the Sanctuary, in order to liberate the Sanctuary and save the demi-humans trapped in it by a mysterious barrier. However, the journey starts to get complicated, as using his Return by Death to gain insight on how to bypass each obstacle proves ineffective.

Addendum: One Day II[]

One Day II (わんでいⅡ, Wan Dei II) is a 9 chapter addendum in between Arc 4 and Arc 5. The main 7 chapters are about the Emilia Camp's temporary relocation to the Miload Manor following the end of Arc 4, their meeting of Clind and Annerose Miload, and Subaru's knighting ceremony. The 2 remaining special chapters cover how Crusch and Ferris recruited Wilhelm van Astrea into their camp.

Arc 5: The Stars That Engrave History[]

The Stars That Engrave History (歴史を刻む星々, Reikishi wo Kizamu Hoshiboshi) is the fifth arc of the web novel. It began on 2014-09-17, and it was finished on 2015-08-13. Arc 5 consists of 81 chapters and 3 interludes.

The fifth arc is about Anastasia inviting the Emilia, Crusch, and Felt Camps to attend a gathering in the Watergate City of Priestella, with the Priscilla Camp appearing uninvited soon afterward. Soon after their arrival at the Watergate City, the Witch Cult appears, taking control of the city and forcing Subaru to unite all camps in order to defeat the evil Witch Cultists and liberate the city.

Arc 6: The Corridor of Memories[]

The Corridor of Memories (記憶の回廊, Kioku no Kairou) is the sixth arc of the web novel. It began on 2015-08-15, and it was finished on 2020-11-04. Arc 6 consists of 90 chapters.

The sixth arc is about Subaru, who leads a team to the Pleiades Watchtower to gain knowledge regarding how to fix the problems caused during the battle in Priestella. Once they finally arrive after much trouble, the tower's Star Keeper, Shaula, tells them that in order to gain knowledge, they must complete the Pleiades Watchtower's three Trials. However, in the process of doing so, old enemies looking to settle a score reappear alongside new faces who should not be there.

Arc 7: The Land of Wolves[]

The Land of Wolves (狼の国, Ōkami no Kuni) is the seventh arc of the web novel. It began on 2021-01-21, and it was finished on 2023-02-19. Arc 7 consists of 116 chapters.

The seventh arc is about Subaru finding himself in a mysterious jungle with Rui and Rem—who has not regained her memories after regaining consciousness. The jungle soon turns out to be the Buddheim Jungle located in the southern Sacred Vollachia Empire, and after meeting the ousted Emperor of Vollachia, Vincent Abellux, he participates in a campaign to help the man calling himself Abel regain the Imperial Throne. However, the situation evolves when Priscilla Barielle and her camp arrive to help Abel. To end the rebellion, thereby allowing Subaru to return home, he and Abel must recruit more of the Nine Divine Generals than the two who deposed the Emperor, Berstetz Fondalfon and Chisha Gold. But the situation is far more complicated than it appears, and while Subaru is engulfed by an unfamiliar technique, the signs of a looming disaster predestined by the stars begin to assert themselves through a Stargazer who facilitated Abel's dethronement.

Arc 8: Vincent Vollachia[]

Vincent Vollachia (ヴィンセント·ヴォラキア, Vinsento Vorakia) is the eighth arc of the web novel. It began on 2023-04-12, and it was finished on 2024-06-03. Arc 8 consists of 75 chapters and 1 interlude.

At the denouement of the Battle for the Imperial Capital, the curtain for the Great Disaster rises. As those who died in the Sacred Vollachia Empire continue to pile up and rise, Vincent Vollachia issues an order to retreat to the northwestern Fortified City of Garkla. Meanwhile, Natsuki Subaru, his allies, and his enemy, Todd Fang, retreat from Lupugana together. Along the way, they eliminate numerous undead beings, dubbed 「zombies」, until a betrayal occurs, causing Emilia and Rem to intervene with the situation. After Subaru loses consciousness, he awakes in a dragon carriage leaving the Imperial Capital, finding himself face-to-face with his friends in the Emilia Camp, the Pleiades Battalion, and Vincent, the man who once called himself Abel. After resolving the discrepancies in their relationship, they and their allies begin working towards ending the destruction caused by the undead army and its commander.

Arc 9: Light of the Nameless Star[]

Light of the Nameless Star (名も無き星の光, Na mo Haki Hoshi no Hikari) is the ninth arc of the web novel. It began on 2024-07-22. Arc 9 currently consists of 13 chapters and 1 interlude.

Re:Zero EX[]

The Re:Zero EX chapters are web novel chapters that are usually posted for each April Fools'. To celebrate Natsuki Subaru's birthday, the author writes a chapter or chapters which deviate from the original web novel, though there are also several additional chapters posted on Febuary 3 for the Re:IF side story that commemorated Ram and Rem's birthday from the day before for several years. They are around four times longer than normal chapters and have shown three types of stories, with the most notable of them being what would've happened if Subaru did something contrary from what he actually does; each of these chapters resembles one of the seven deadly sins. Other stories told include alternative universe stories where the cast is in a Japanese high school setting or has their genders reversed, as well as a major backstory chapter centering on the tale of Iris and the King of Thorns.

• Currently, only one web novel chapter has been entirely removed from the web novel, which is the Butterfly's Dream What IF Story.
  • Although other chapters have been removed, they were reuploaded onto a separate page for Re:Zero works depicting content disconnected from the main story shortly thereafter.
• Previously, the author stated that there would be eleven arcs of the story, but that he originally planned for nine, with Arc 2 and an unknown arc being added later.^[1] However, Arc 7 was split into two arcs, Arc 8 became the third arc to be added later, and there will now be twelve total story arcs in Re:Zero.
• The web novel does not feature any illustrations except for in Arc 3, Chapter 80, The End of Sloth.
• In the light novel, Arc 4 included the knighting ceremony featured at the very end of One Day II. The rest of the extra addendum was not added.
• Arc 6 is the arc that took the longest time to be written. As opposed to every other arc beforehand, Arc 6 took the author roughly 5 years to complete.
• There is a misconception that the titles of Chapter 22 of Arc 1 and Chapter 54 of Arc 6 contain the name of the series both without and with the "Re:" in the beginning respectively. However, the word "starting" (始める, hajimeru) in the series' title is slightly modified in the two chapter titles to another tense (始まる, hajimaru), thus meaning that they do not directly use the name of the series itself within their titles.
• In a Re:Zero talk show held back in 2018, Tappei Nagatsuki expressed his desire to name the final Re:Zero chapter Ｒｅ：ゼロから始めた異世界生活 (Re:Zero − Having Started Life in Another World).
• Vincent Vollachia is the first and only character featured in the story thus far to have an arc named after them.
